Herring Reservoir Campground at Herring Creek, Pinecrest, California.

The campgrounds were completely empty when we showed on on a Wednesday evening in July, which is great for soaking up the peace and quiet! The campground isn't far from Strawberry and Pinecrest, so you get a nice, quiet, secluded campground, but all the activities of hiking, OHV riding, swimming, boating, etc., as if you stayed in the packed Pinecrest or nearby developed campgrounds.

There are NO bear bins at this campground. Recommend that you bring bear canisters and be "bear aware". Also, no running water and no garbage service.

The Herring Creek and Herring Creek Reservoir campgrounds are "dispersed" campgrounds very close to each other. They're walk-up (first-come, first-served) sites. If one doesn't have the space, just travel up the road a short distance to the next. Though nobody is there to collect your fee, please pay the fee if you'd like to continue seeing these types of campgrounds remain open.
